The incandescent love that Martine and William (aka “Gillytine”) share is obvious to anyone in the room. Having recently moved to Asheville, they began planning a large wedding to include the social circles of both their vibrant extended families and all their friends, when they decided to stop the presses and go small. Very small. So small that the only guests they shared their day with were their two sets of parents—Martine’s parents are from South Africa and William’s are from France and England—who had not yet even met each other! Gillytine decided there was no more perfect way for these dear people to get to know each other than this momentous occasion.

They chose the private event space at Rhubarb restaurant in downtown Asheville as their venue, and Elizabeth Westridge, Rhubarb’s event manager, did a wonderful job of making the rustic space feel cozy and look gorgeous. Emily Patrick of Carolina Flowers and her team created a special handmade Chuppah, as well as Martine’s bouquet, William’s boutonniere, and the table decorations. Melissa and Elizabeth from Pop of Color Asheville did Martine’s and the moms’ beautiful hair and makeup, Martine’s dress is by Wildflower Bridal, and Bob Peck from Magic Hour Creative was on hand to capture video.

We took full advantage of the relatively warm-for-December weather, doing Gillytine’s First Look at the Asheville’s Pack Square Park amphitheater, and lots of colorful portraits under the Christmas lights and decorations downtown.

It was one of the most intimate and genuinely loving evenings I’ve had the honor of photographing. Mazel Tov to Gillytine and their new extended family!
